Madeline Karabian, AMFT

My approach to therapy is one of active, yet gentle collaboration between therapist and client. My practice as a psychotherapist is to help cut through outdated narratives that often prevent us from creating the changes to live a satisfying and enriching life. I am a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT 136655) who works with adolescents, individuals, couples and families.

As an undergraduate, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Italian from the University of Southern California, and then went on to earn my Master’s of Marriage and Family Therapy from Phillips Graduate Institute, where I graduated with honors. At Phillips, my graduate research project explored the connections between nonmongamous relationship dynamics and sexual satisfaction in long-term partnerships.

In my practice, I draw from my experience as a therapist at California Family Counseling Center, a nonprofit community mental health center that provides sliding-scale therapy, where I completed my traineeship working with individuals, couples and families. Additionally, I incorporate my experience with children, having worked as a school therapist at The Country School. I have training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and am a Prepare/Enright Premarital and Marriage Assessment Facilitator. I am also a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT).

My private practice work focuses on life transitions, anxiety, depression, sex, and intimacy. I offer a warm, inviting space where clients can develop a deeper awareness of themselves, and gain insight about their lives, exploring relationships and challenges on a path toward a more harmonious future.
